Violinist playing with wool string hanging

VIOLIN AND A BALL OF WOOL

As violinist, Anna McMichael attempts to perform a standard concert recital, the composer Damian Barbeler intervenes using a ball of wool in various ways to disturb, disfigure or interrupt the performance. A complex relationship arises between the two as if strange personal rituals are being carried out, and the written music takes on new agency beyond the direct original lyrical strains.

It was adapted in the same year and performed for the Extended Play Festival in the Sydney City Recital Hall and Melbourne Metropolis Festival in May 2019. It was later made into a film with the help of Judith Neilson and her Phoenix art project.
