SPIRITCHASER

Commissioned to make a film on a girl’s relationships with Burma, her place of birth and her distant memory. The short film, photographed, illustrated and animated to capture a dreamlike reconnection with the spirit of the place. Made with Jeremy Hall of Race of Giants. Spiritchaser follows Nanda through a journey of self-discovery, as she is propelled through a series of fantastical encounters to unravel the essence of her identity. It fuses gentle narratives with fantastical dreamscapes as Nanda is led by whimsical supernatural beings and finds herself amongst the pagodas, old libraries, Buddhist monks and spirit dancers, on a journey over the plains of mythical Bagan, surrounded by Buddhas, golden lions and mystical eggs.

The film captures a personal journey where Nanda ultimately begins to understand the importance of home, and begins to uncover her connection to the hidden culture of Burma.
